Top 10 Colorado Mountain Wedding Venues

If you’re lucky enough to live in Colorado you probably have already honed a deep love for the outdoors. Now you’re planning your dream wedding and want to celebrate the day with your family and friends at the top of the Rockies. To be sure there are more than 10 great Colorado mountain wedding venues, but here is a list of the best ones to propel your search.

San Sophia: The scenery doesn’t get any more majestic that the San Sophia Overlook. High above the town of Telluride you and your guests will love the views including a wooden deck perched at the edge of Lift 7 at Telluride Ski Resort.

Here you can have a large wedding; however, the logistics of its location (it’s accessed by ski lift) suggest a guest list of 50 to 100 would be more engaging. But did I say the view will be stunning? Photographs here will be beautiful, and I might add that with my unlimited wedding day coverage we’ll have extra time to put the scenery to good use.

The trade-off for a location like this is having limited services on the mountain; however, the ski resort will cater your entire event. This is a great venue for photos and a private celebration, as well as a stunning spot to say your vows.

Gorrono Ranch: Where you might not want to have a large wedding party at the top of the mountain at San Sophia, Gorrono Ranch can easily handle a larger guest list of 250 friends and family.

And like San Sophia, Gorrono Ranch has stunning views from multiple points, but it also adds complete accommodations that include an executive chef, decks for ceremonies and a band, plus the atmosphere of a chic mountain ranch wedding.

In the fall the trees will have color, in the summer greenery shines, and if you brave the winter expect a white wedding. Make use of the main lodge and historic cabins, and you might want to go earlier and spend time here before your wedding day (I’m happy to accommodate your extra day included in my service with bridal photos).

T Lazy 7 Ranch: Ok, now you’re having an even larger mountain ranch wedding than the previous two venues can handle – the T Lazy 7 Ranch is the perfect spot.

Invite a few hundred of your closest friends and regale them with tales of how you met. The T Lazy 7 will invite you all in with a log lodge with sweeping vaulted ceilings, stone fireplaces, and everything else that will help you attain the perfect mountain ranch chic wedding. There’s also a great history that comes with the venue, including the founders being some of the earliest settlers in Aspen. That just makes it a great place to start your own history together.

Here you can also have your choice of different theme weddings, such as a tented event at Ceremony Meadow, a rustic romantic setting at the Chuckwagon Grounds, or just head inside to the main lodge. Either way there are endless photo settings – photographically you can’t go wrong here.

Hallam Lake at the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies: I know, I know, the name of the this venue doesn’t scream gorgeous wedding venue, but don’t judge a book by its cover, or a wedding venue by its name.

It’s one thing to have an outdoor wedding in the wide open on top of a mountain in the Rockies, but some might prefer the lush canopy of a woodland setting. This is a beautiful outdoor setting, on a 25-acre reserve that creates an intimate setting for a small lush wedding. A choice of a lakefront ceremony or a secluded meadow where some uninvited critters might join the celebration make this venue uniquely qualified for the couple who love forest and fauna.

Chipeta Solar Springs Resort: Surrounded by the San Juan mountains, national forests, and conservation land, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more charming outdoor Colorado setting. The flexibility of accommodations are also a plus here, with both small and large wedding settings, which can be either indoor or outdoor, depending on the season.

Think clean Colorado mountain air, and a most beautiful outdoor setting for any style of wedding, and you’ll get what this venue is all about. Photographically speaking there is no way you can go wrong with a venue like this. A low-key natural Free People style wedding would be perfect here.

Piney River Ranch: If you want your wedding in Vail, you probably won’t find a more beautiful setting than Piney River Ranch. This is a 40-acre (and a mule) privately ran ranch located at the end of a dirt road maintained by the forest service (it’s remote).

Once you’re there the views will take your breath away. Say your ceremonial vows on a platform placed against the backdrop of majestic mountain peaks, utilize two log pavilions for hosting up to 200 guests. They offer six choices of “ranch-style” menus from their in-house caterer. Piney River Ranch is open from June to September. They host weddings from all over the U.S., so it’s suggested that you plan well ahead.

The Lodge at Camp Hale: This is a terrific wedding location in the Vail area that includes 90 acres of gorgeous land and mountain backdrops. This is a beautiful location for a beautifully photographed Colorado mountain wedding. Camp Hale has a 6000 square foot lodge, an outdoor tent, and spaces for groups from 20 to 300 guests.

It’s worth mentioning also that although this is a wonderful venue as is, they are investing in a few upgrades to the amenities to increase its appeal even more. I think that speaks to their dedication for making this one of the premiere wedding venues in Colorado. Camp Hale has multiple dates in the summer booked so again plan ahead to get your date here.

Skydance: For a little different venue than the sprawling mountain ranch setting, Skydance near Breckenridge is a first-class venue for a cozy wedding celebration of up to 25 guests.

This sprawling home of over 7000 square feet on three levels with endless entertainment options is a perfect venue for a private wedding and stay. In fact, you may want to just stay with your family and friends before the ceremony, and make it a vacation/wedding celebration. There are 6 bedrooms, each with flat screen tv’s, a chef’s kitchen, second kitchen, wet bar, and web connectivity all available for your stay.

Because you’re already in a beautiful mountain location, you can opt to have your small ceremony in a number of outdoor spots while maintaining your stay at Skydance. After your ceremony, head back to Skydance and have your post-wedding events catered-in. There are limitless locations for photographs nearby.

Copper Mountain Resort: For a more conventional venue than the private ranch retreats, Copper Mountain is a full-service wedding venue with multiple wedding ceremony options, catered or restaurant choices, reception spots, and space for both small and large wedding parties.

Still, the resort is in a beautiful location with rustic charm and mountain views, plus just about any amenity you would want. Of special note is an outdoor ceremony location that is hard to beat for charm and beauty. It should go without saying, but with everything Copper Mountain has to offer, your photos will be beautiful and varied. Located about an hour from Denver, Copper Mountain may be a good venue for couples in the northern half of the state.

Torian Plum Wedding Tent: Finally, for an indoor/outdoor type wedding try the Torian Plum Wedding Tent near Steamboat Streams. The great thing about this venue is you have the flexibility to design your own wedding in a picturesque mountain setting.

It’s not strictly ranch or rustic, or country, make this venue your own. Hire a caterer of your choice, decorate at will, and use the lodging facilities and other amenities to stay before and/or after your wedding is complete. It may be a little more work to plan your wedding at a venue like this, but it might then also feel more like you.
